Heather George
RESIDENT CHEF, SUR LA TABLE
Heather George is the Resident Chef at Sur La Table in Old Town Alexandria. Heather has been with the company since October of 2016.
Before realizing her passion with food, Heather graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina with the intention of attending law school. Having worked in restaurants since high school, the food world was always a part of her life, but the culinary dream didn’t materialize until she worked her first shift on the fry station of a busy steakhouse.
Heather attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, and graduated with a Culinary Arts degree in 2008. Heather then returned home to South Carolina where she worked in upscale restaurants and country clubs for two years. In 2011, Heather became the Sous Chef at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia. Three years later, Heather joined the chef team at the iconic Old Ebbitt Grill, where she honed her expediting skills, gathered useful culinary knowledge, and even learned to shuck six oysters in under two minutes. Heather then transferred to Clyde’s of Tysons Corner to become the Executive Sous Chef, a position she held until this landmark restaurant closed in February of 2017.
